Zarqa Al Yamama

Zarqa Al Yamama is an Arabian woman who had a sharp sight and great intuitions. She lived with her tribe in the Arabian peninsula during the pre- Islamic era, other resources said that the story took place in 250 B.C. Zarqa Al Yamama had blue eyes, and she could see a rider three days before his arrival. During the war, the enemy knew about her power so they cut trees and used it to hide behind them. When they approached her city, Zarqa told her tribe that there are trees moving toward them and the enemy is hiding behind the trees. However, her clan didn’t believe her and accused her of insanity. Eventually the enemy reached the city, murdered everyone and they cut out Al Yamama’s eyes.

Al Yamama was mentioned in many Arabian books and resources, and there are different versions of her story. Some people believe that she was not a myth but a really smart woman who used to advise her clan during war, but people exaggerated by telling a story about her having a powerful sight.

Unfortunately there are few illustrations of her and she wasn’t mentioned in any modern books or stories.

My illustration

As shown in the images bellow, I've illustrated Zarqa Al Yamama to be the first mythical being that the characters will meet in my story (Lands of Wonder). 
The image on the left is a visual narrative which describes Al Yamama's features and the interaction between her and the main character (Aya) , while the image on the right illustrates the cabin where Zarqa lives.

(Fig.1) (Book of Wonders) 20 May 2019 WakWak Tree Isle of WakWak or WakWak tree is one of the Arabian myths that was mentioned in Wonders of Creation book by Zakarīyā Ibn Muḥammad al-Qazwīn.  The WakWak tree produces fruits which have the shape of a woman's head. These heads make the sound "Wak" when the sun rises,hence the name of the tree.According to onomatopoeia in Arabic, the sound "Wak" is the sound of a rooster. Some stories said that these fruits can talk and they tell prophesies as well. (Figure.1) shows an illustration from the Book of Wonders were the tree is producing a fully grown women instead of just their heads.  There are so many fascinated stories about mythical trees in different mythologies . Such as Kalpa tree from Indian mythology , Nariphon from Thailand myths and Jinmenju tree from Japanese mythology. (Myers, 2014 ) Jinmenju tree somehow resembles the WakWak tree in that they both produce fruits with human body

Illustrating for a vedio game.

My sister Abeer had developed a website and a video game related to the Palestinian culture and folk story. She asked me if I could illustrate backgrounds for the game and design the characters in the game and for the website. Characters: (Fig.1) Shows the main character's design "Mahmoud" in the game. While (Fig.2) shows an illustration of Mahmoud on the website where there are information and background knowledge about him. Figure.1: Character design Figure.2: Mahmoud Figure.3: Mahmoud's father design Background : (Figure 4: Background outside) (Fig.4) shows the outside background of the game. The game is set up in Bethlehem so I tried to resemble the city in the background by adding the masjid and the church. (Figure 5: Background Inside) (Fig.5) Shows the background inside the house where the character "Mahmoud" is talking with his father. Here is a short video of the game.
